Originally we purchased this stunning 17.2 hands daughter of Don Frederico and out of the mare Arnika ( damline of the stallion Donnarweiss) as a 4 year old in Germany. That year after importing her to the US Dakaris won the USDF Horse of the Year title for 4 and 5 year old mares.
We also were able to obtain an embryo sired by Radikal which resulted in the mare Rad Safari. In the summer of 2008 we sold Dakaris for financial reasons. We had a replacement with her daughter. We learned that she was up for sale again in 2010 because of performance hindering issues. Somehow the thought of this mare going down the road was unbearable to us. We scraped all our credit cards together and after months of back and forth were able to get Dakaris back. We really want to thank her previous owner for making this possible, she also put the mares best interest before anything else.
Initially we thought to just breed her from now on, there had been some serious issues with her ability to perform. But since it was late in the season we figured we could wait until 2011 to breed her. So Marion started riding her last fall and although we had to overcome some things and go back to square one we are very happy to announce the mare is back on track and the bond between her and Marion is stronger than ever.
They just came back from their first show this season with steady scores in the 70`s all weekend! The mare is happy and so are we! Great things will come and the breeding will just have to be secondary or ET. Job security for our recip mares!
Update ... after Dakaris was given the time and rehab she needed she caught the eye of our trainer and friend Jessica Wisdom. The 2 of them have gotten to know each other and seem to have found a mutual love and respect (very important when you introduce a Big Black mare to a Redhead!!!), and although Marion is having a hard time letting go, the decision was made in the mare`s best interest to stay with Jessica for a while so she can shine. We heard some rumors about California and a freestyle to “Black horse and the Cherry Tree”!!!!
On 2012 Dakaris has been shown by Jessica Wisdom at 3rd and 4th levels, the mare has transformed, she is a happy athlete now! The following video was her debut at 4th:
Dakaris will come home to CCSH in September, but continue her education with Jessica this winter for another season at FEI.
